What are the types of breast lifts?

Peri-Areolar Lift

The surgeon makes an incision around the areola to adjust the breasts’ profile. This is only suitable for beauties with mild breast ptosis, and it’s often performed with breast augmentations. The scar is invisible because it’s hidden in the darker pigment of the areola.

Vertical Lift

The surgeon makes an incision around the areola and another incision running down from the areola to the breast crease. The incision shape resembles a lollipop. This incision style only leaves one visible scar running down the length of the breast. This is one of the most common breast lift techniques for beauties with moderate breast ptosis.

Inverted T Lift

The surgeon makes an incision around the areola, extends it down to the breast crease, and then makes a final incision horizontally along the breast crease. The incision is well concealed along the breast crease, but it’s more visible than the other incision styles. This technique is suitable for beauties with severe breast ptosis, marked by low-hanging, pendulous breasts.

What happens during the breast lift procedure?

Dr. Wu performs breast lifts in The Woodlands at the surgery center under general anesthesia. The size, shape, and style of the incision depend on your unique goals and the severity of breast ptosis.

Mild breast ptosis warrants a simple incision around the areola, whereas severe ptosis calls for an anchor incision that runs horizontally along the breast crease. After making the incision, Dr. Wu removes the excess skin and breast tissues to restore your breast’s optimal projection. Your nipples may also be repositioned into a new shape to ensure they point forwards rather than down.

After the necessary adjustments, the incisions are closed with sutures, and the incisions are covered with water proof bandages that protect your incisions for 2-3 weeks.

What is the post-breast lift recovery process like?

You’ll experience some discomfort for the first 2-3 days after surgery then quickly feel great again. You may shower 2 days after surgery. Your swelling, bruising, and tenderness will improve significantly after 2-3 weeks and that’s when your waterproof bandages will be removed in the office. You will then begin scar therapy to optimize incision healing. You will continue to wear your post-op bra or a soft supportive bra for 12 weeks after surgery. You can go bra shopping at 3 months!

Most patients find it sufficient to take only 1 week off work. You should sleep on your back for the first 2 weeks after surgery. You should also avoid lifting your arms overhead, lifting heavy objects, and strenuous activities. You can potentially resume low-level activities after 2 weeks and resume all your normal activities by 6 weeks. Dr. Wu will be in touch throughout the recovery process to ensure you have a safe and smooth recovery after your breast lift in The Woodlands.
